BACKGROUND

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly influencing how industries operate, how work is organized, and how skills are defined and developed. Advances in generative AI, automation, data analytics, and intelligent systems are changing occupational tasks while creating demand for new combinations of technical, digital, analytical, and human-centred competencies. For Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) systems, these developments have implications not only for the skills that learners need to acquire, but also for how institutions design curricula, prepare teachers, assess competencies, engage with industry, and support learners in transitioning from education to employment.
The growing adoption of AI presents both opportunities and challenges for TVET institutions. Industry demand for AI-related competencies requires education and training systems to establish more responsive pathways between learning and employment, strengthen digital and AI literacy, develop relevant competency-based programmes and microcredentials, and continuously update training standards in response to changing occupational requirements. At the institutional level, TVET providers also need to consider how AI can be responsibly integrated into teaching, learning, assessment, institutional management, and workforce development.
Across the Asia-Pacific region, the rapid advancement of AI and other emerging technologies is reshaping the relationship between education, skills development, and the labour market. These changes require TVET systems to strengthen their capacity to anticipate emerging skills needs, support continuous learning, enhance teacher and trainer capabilities, and establish stronger linkages with industry. At the same time, institutions need to consider the ethical, inclusive, and human-centred dimensions of AI adoption to ensure that technological advancement contributes meaningfully to quality education and sustainable employment.
Against this backdrop, the webinar will provide a platform to examine how TVET can move from AI awareness toward AI readiness. It will connect the industry perspective on emerging AI skills and talent pathways with the TVET perspective on institutional, curricular, pedagogical, and workforce responses, providing participants with practical insights into how TVET systems and institutions can prepare learners and workers for an increasingly AI-enabled world of work.

FOCUS OF THE WEBINAR

This webinar examines the strategic implications of artificial intelligence for TVET in strengthening workforce readiness, curriculum responsiveness, teaching and learning, and institutional transformation. It brings together the industry perspective on emerging AI skills and talent pathways and the TVET perspective on translating technological developments into relevant skills, pedagogical practices, and institutional responses.
It reflects the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

  • SDG 4: Quality Education - strengthening the relevance, quality, and responsiveness of TVET through AI-related competencies, future-ready curricula, innovative pedagogical approaches, and enhanced teacher and trainer capabilities.
  • SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth - promoting stronger alignment between TVET skills development and evolving occupational requirements to prepare learners and workers for AI-enabled workplaces.
  • SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure - supporting technological innovation, digital transformation, and stronger collaboration between TVET institutions and industry in developing future-ready skills.
  • SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals - encouraging collaboration among TVET institutions, industry, policymakers, education and training stakeholders, and development partners to strengthen AI-ready TVET systems.

Discussions will explore key themes such as emerging AI-related skills and occupations, AI talent pipelines, industry skills requirements, ladderized learning-to-work pathways, microcredentials, curriculum responsiveness, AI-enabled teaching and learning, teacher and trainer capacity development, responsible AI adoption, institutional digital transformation, and industry–TVET collaboration.

OBJECTIVES

  • To enhance understanding of the implications of artificial intelligence for the future of work and the changing skills requirements of industry.
  • To examine emerging AI-related competencies, talent pathways, and workforce requirements and their implications for TVET systems.
  • To explore approaches for strengthening TVET curricula, training programs, and microcredentials in response to evolving industry needs.
  • To discuss how AI can be integrated into teaching, learning, assessment, and other institutional practices in TVET.
  • To highlight strategies for strengthening the capacity of TVET teachers and trainers to respond to AI-enabled education and training.
  • To promote responsible, inclusive, and human-centred approaches to AI adoption in TVET.
  • To foster stronger collaboration among TVET institutions, industry, policymakers, and other stakeholders in developing AI-ready and future-oriented TVET systems.

TARGET PARTICIPANTS

This webinar is designed for TVET institutional leaders, policymakers, curriculum developers, teachers and trainers, quality assurance practitioners, assessment and certification personnel, researchers, institutional planning officers, industry and human resource representatives, professional associations, and development organizations from CPSC member countries. It also targets professionals involved in skills development, workforce planning, digital transformation, and industry engagement who seek to understand the implications of AI for TVET and the preparation of learners and workers for the future of work.

DATE AND TIME

The webinar is tentatively scheduled on October 28, 2026 from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM (Philippine Standard Time) and will be conducted via the CPSC Zoom Platform with simultaneous live streaming through Facebook Live.
